SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – State Rep. Stephanie Kifowit, D-Oswego, issued the following statement Wednesday after Gov. J.B. Pritzker gave his annual budget address:
“As Chair of the Personnel and Pensions Committee, I would like to thank the Governor for his proposal to address the Pension situation in the State of Illinois. I appreciate the hard work of the members of the pension committee and look forward to continuing to work on pension policy that is respectful of the hard working employees of the state of Illinois and fiscally responsible for the state budget.” “Our state has made good strides toward fiscal responsibility in recent years, and we must continue this momentum. Property taxes and pensions are two of my main priorities in Springfield, and I will ensure that the voices of residents on these topics are properly represented in budget discussions. In addition, it is critical that we focus on supporting our classrooms, invest in public safety and pursue a balanced approach that respects taxpayers. I’m particularly interested in seeing how we can strengthen health care access – especially for our Veterans and seniors. We have a lot of work ahead, and I look forward to reviewing the governor’s proposal in detail.” Free Access to Chicagoland Museums & Zoos: Kifowit Continues Constituent Education Initiative2/13/2024

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – Responding to the proliferation of hidden charges on purchases, Representative Stephanie Kifowit (D-Oswego) introduced legislation this week that would outlaw “junk fees,” ensuring consumers are not exposed to deceptive business practices that add unfair costs.
The proposed bill, House Bill 4629, specifically targets hidden fees in Illinois transactions. It prohibits businesses from offering a price for goods or services that does not include all mandatory fees and charges, excluding taxes, fees imposed by the government, and shipping charges that will be reasonably and actually incurred. If passed, this legislation will make it mandatory for businesses to disclose the final total upfront. California passed a similar measure last year. It's essential that we provide them with the support they need to ensure their children receive quality care.” She added, “this bill aligns with our ongoing commitment to building a more inclusive and supportive community." |
