State Representative Stephanie Kifowit proudly represents the 84th District, encompassing parts of Aurora, Oswego, Naperville, and Montgomery. With a strong foundation in both military and civilian service, Kifowit has been a force for positive change throughout her career. A United States Marine Corps Veteran, Kifowit served with distinction from 1990 to 1994. Her journey in the US Marines took her from the School of Infantry at Marine Corps Base, Camp Pendleton, California, where she earned the title of Marine of the Quarter with a meritorious rank of Corporal (E-4), to overseas service at Marine Wing Headquarters Squadron 1 in Camp Foster, Okinawa, Japan. Honorably discharged in 1994, Kifowit's military service earned her accolades such as the Good Conduct Medal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal, Rifle Marksman Badge, Two Meritorious Masts, Meritorious Unit Commendation, and Certificate of Commendation. A proud alumna of Northern Illinois University and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science and a Masters of Public Administration degree, Kifowit brought her commitment to public service to the City of Aurora, where she served as an Alderwoman for over 9 years. In 2013, she was sworn in as a State Representative. Chairing the Personnel & Pensions Committee and the Property Tax Subcommittee, and serving on the Revenue & Finance Committee, Veterans' Affairs Committee, and Income Tax Subcommittee, Kifowit has been a driving force behind legislation aimed at restoring integrity to state government and supporting Veterans, seniors, and the most vulnerable in the community. Notably, Representative Kifowit is the only female Veteran and United States Marine in the General Assembly. Beyond her own service, her family’s commitment to the military continues through her son, currently serving in the Navy aboard the USS Ralph Johnson stationed in Yokosuka, Japan. |
