BATAVIA, Ill. – State Representative Stephanie Kifowit (D-Oswego) joined a distinguished panel of Veterans Affairs leaders for the Batavia VFW Veterans Town Hall, hosted by the Kane County Veterans Assistance Commission. The event, which took place on Friday, February 2nd at 4:30 p.m., was held at the Batavia Overseas VFW Post 1197. "I was honored to be a part of this important event that brought together our local Veterans and key leaders in the Veterans Affairs community," said State Rep. Stephanie Kifowit. "The Town Hall provided a platform for open dialogue, where we addressed concerns, shared information, and ensured our Veterans received the support they deserve." The day began with a Veterans Resource Fair, organized by the Kane County Veterans Assistance Commission, providing attendees with valuable information and resources. Following the Resource Fair, the Town Hall provided Veterans and community members an opportunity to engage with VA leaders, ask questions, and receive updates on pertinent issues. “We are so fortunate in Kane County to have officials so readily engaging with our Veterans’ community,” said Kane County VAC Superintendent Jacob Zimmerman. “Representative Kifowit, along with the other panelists, provided unique insight to our Veterans while at the same time taking feedback for action in the General Assembly – all key to having a successful Town Hall event.” The Town Hall featured key figures from both the National and State levels of Veterans Affairs, including Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs Director Terry Prince, Hines VA Chief of Staff Dr. Michael Richardson, Chicago VA Regional Office Veteran Service Center Manager John Pennington, and State Representative and Marine Veteran Stephanie Kifowit. At the end of the evening, Kifowit was presented with the 2023 Outstanding Legislator of the Year Award by the Illinois Association of County Veterans Assistance Commissions. The award is presented each year to an Illinois State Legislator who has shown dedication to serving the Veteran community. "I am humbled to receive this esteemed recognition," said Representative Kifowit. "Supporting my fellow Veterans has been a top priority throughout my legislative career, and I am grateful for the trust placed in me by the Veterans living in Illinois."
